Seven Cafe & Umbria Truffle Hunting
About two hours northeast of Rome is an exquisite little town called
Monteleone d’ Orvieto. Many charming places and sites live within the charming haven of Monteleone, but there is one that must not be missed. Seven Cafe is run and owned by two brothers Andrea & Michele. Together they are a driving force, running a charming little wine bar hidden in the hills of Umbria. You’ll find the dishes to be heavenly and the company to make you feel like you are at your grandmother’s house for Sunday night dinner.
Truffles are a religion for them. They eat, sleep, and breathe this delicacy. This makes sense because they were raised in a family of truffle hunters. The stories they’ll share will delight you. While you enjoy fresh pasta married in fresh truffles from your hunt earlier in the day.
Andrea will pair local wines and educate you about their fermentation. While Michele walks out of the kitchen with a feast ready to make it rain in truffles. Many people when I told them we were going to embark on this adventure asked if we were going with pigs. I have come to find thanks to Andrea & Michele. It is a specific breed of dog. Which can be up to $10,000 a pup. Pigs they explained were great at sniffing out the truffles but had no self-control to not be overcome by the smell and devour them whole. Leaving nothing to show for the hunt. The dogs, who the brothers treat as family, have trained them so precisely. When delivered the appropriate command once the truffle is found. The dog stops and sits back to watch their owner retrieve the truffle.
I can not thank Andrea & Michele enough for welcoming us into their world and sharing all the magic that is Seven Cafe. We undoubtedly will be back again.
